Mission
The mission of MMAP is to educate, empower and inspire youth through the arts.
MMAP believes that art is integral to a thriving community life, and is a safe platform for risk-taking and creative expression. Connects disadvantaged youth with consistent, encouraging mentors and role models through art programs emphasizing community development, academic achievement, and their own positive futures.
Since 2001, young artists have researched, planned, and installed a public art legacy of 235 murals, produced 162 songs, and produced 29 videos. Along the way MMAP has served 12,591 students and has reached over 33,360 individuals through live performances, art projects, outreach, and community events.
In 2016, MMAP served 3,350 youth and reached over 5,750 community members through 294 innovative arts projects, exhibits, and performances, including 26 murals, 30 songs, and 19 exhibits & performances.
In October 2017, MMAP and Imprint.City co-organized the 2nd Annual Bayview LIVE festival and concert featuring headlining artist Talib Kweli, 17 emerging guest performing artists, 10 HHH performers, along with 4 live large-scale mural installations by 4 emerging and professional artists alongside 15 MMAP youth artists. Over 3,000 people attended Bayview LIVE. Additionally, in 2017, MMAP partnered with the Ravenswood Family Health Center and College Track youth to paint 18 outdoor panel murals for the RFHC community garden. In San Francisco, MMAP Bayview youth worked with professional artists to paint 12 large panel murals commissioned by the Candlestick Housing Development Project.
